B.A. in Anthropology, Colorado State University
My job is a claims specialist with the Social Security Administration taking Supplemental Security Income (SSI) applications primarily. The SSI program is for low income/low resource individuals who are not insured for Social Security Disability. My training in anthropology has helped me have more of an understanding of the situations of the people I deal with daily; homeless, immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
Note to Current Students
My fondest educational memory with CSU anthropology was the interactions I had with my professors and advisors. My advice to students is to learn work/life balance so you can both enjoy the college experience and be successful in their education. Also take full advantage of internships, and get to know your professors. If you show interest in them and keep them in the loop on matters and you run into a snag they will always be ready and willing to help as well as be understanding if something comes up. Enjoy CSU because it's a fantastic school with solid professors.
