Current Scholarships Available in the Department of Anthropology:

Amanda Jones Field Study Abroad Award

amandajonesIn honor of CSU anthropology alumna (’13) Amanda- ‘Mandy’- Jones , the Department of Anthropology is pleased to invite applications for the Amanda Jones Field Study Abroad Award.

Amanda was an anthropology major with a keen interest in applied work, her desire was to learn about other cultures by working in conjunction with communities to build sustainable futures.  She participated in a field program for applied anthropology in Peru and found the experience to be one of the best of her undergraduate career, one that took her beyond the borders of the United States and brought to life her anthropology training.

The Amanda Jones Award will provide a $5,000 award to defer costs of an international field school or program in applied anthropology.  To be eligible for the award, you must 1) have completed 15 credits of an anthropology major; 2) identified an international field school or academic program that features applied anthropology; and 3) complete a 1,500 word essay.  In your essay, you must describe 1) the chosen program of study, 2) your interest in the specific locale of the program, 3) how completion of the program will further your career goals, and 4) how you expect to affected by participation in such work.

The Anthropology Scholarship Endowment

The Anthropology Scholarship Endowment was established in May 2008, this scholarship was funded with gifts from private donors and alumni, along with the Anthropology Department. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to benefit graduate students who are enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and majoring in a field of study within the Anthropology Department. This generous gift will help graduate students to excel and refine their skills in their area of study and to continue towards progressive research and creativity.

Criteria:  Students must be majoring in a field of study within the Anthropology Department. Students must be enrolled as a full time graduate student, and maintain an overall 3.0 GPA and a major GPA of 3.5

Application: The Colorado State University Scholarship Application process shall be used. A committee appointed by the Anthropology Department Chair shall select the recipient(s).

The Cultural Anthropology Scholarship

The Cultural Anthropology Scholarship was established in April 2011 to celebrate the life of Esther Pressel, a professor of Anthropology at Colorado State University. This scholarship will recognize cultural anthropology students who demonstrate the inquisitive, active and exploratory nature of learning that she herself embodied. Esther Pressel taught at CSU from 1968 to 2003.

Criteria: Students must be majoring in Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and be enrolled as an undergraduate and in need of financial aid. Students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.5, and be in cultural anthropology and embody the active, exploratory and inquisitive nature of learning that Dr. Pressel instilled on her students during her time at CSU.

Application: The Colorado State University Scholarship Application process shall be used. A committee appointed by the Anthropology Department Chair shall select the recipient(s). The Department Chair and office staff will request applications from all eligible students through e-mail communication.

The Student Research Scholarship

The Student Research Scholarship was established in April 2012, this scholarship was created by a private donor in order to provide support to students for special projects, travel for individual research and/or presentation of research at professional conferences.

Criteria: Students must be majoring in Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts. Students must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student and in need of financial aid. Demonstrate a combination of academic standing and merit of the project. Applicants must submit a current CV and description of intended use.

Application: A committee appointed by the Anthropology Department Chair shall select the recipient(s). The Department Chair and office staff will request applications from all eligible students through e-mail communication.

Student Research Fund Application

The Field School Scholarship

The Field School Scholarship was established in May 2013 with funds from a private donor and the Department of Anthropology, this award was created to support undergraduate/graduate Anthropology in their field schools endeavors. Funds shall be used to cover necessary expenses associated with field school costs; travel, living, transportation, supplies, etc. Awards are made on a competitive basis based on the following:

Criteria: Students must be majoring in Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts. Students must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0. Applicants must demonstrate involvement in extra-curricular activities, taking initiative, participation in programs and a commitment to anthropology.

The Department Chair and office staff will request applications from all eligible students through e-mail communication.
