Archaeological Institute of America, Denver Chapter: April Lecture
Saving the Past by Investing in the Future: Archaeological Preservation on the North Coast of Peru Through Community Action.
Peru is one of the richest archaeological regions in the world. Despite the importance of these ancient sites and the wealth
generated through tourism, the archaeological heritage of Peru is
being destroyed at an unprecedented rate. Dr. Billman will discuss how MOCHE, Inc., a nonprofit organization, is working to
protect the 10 most endangered archaeological sites on the north
coast of Peru within the next five years.
Summer 2012: Religious Violence and Apocalyptic Movements
The 2012 Hertog Global Strategy Initiative will be taught by Matthew Connelly, Professor of History at Columbia University, and Monica Toft, director of the Belfer Center’s Initiative on Religion in International Affairs at Harvard University. The seminar begins with two weeks of “total immersion” training on global religious violence. Following, there are seven weeks during which students conduct original research and collaborate on team projects. The class reconvenes in the first week of August for students to present their research and participate in a crisis simulation exercise. Participants then have several weeks to write an article-length paper based on their summer research.
