2010 Scholarship Recipient:
David Schutz was awarded the Anthropology Graduate Scholarship in 2010. Schutz was also selected as one of the 2011-2012 CSU International President's Fellows. Schutz is working on a master's portfolio entitled: Integrating Participatory Methods and Livelihoods Approaches into Development Practice: A Case Study of an NGO-Run High School in the Ecuadorian Amazon. His work looks at the potential for "alternative development" thought and participatory approaches and methods to promote ground-up, culturally-bound grass roots initiatives and organizations within the broader mainstream development field. Schutz uses a framework called the 'Sustainable Livelihoods Approach' to evaluate the experiences and goals of students at a technical high school in the Ecuadorian Amazon focused on ecotourism, microenterprise and sustainable agriculture.
