Susan Harness Lecture

Susan Devan Harness, M.A., is a member of the Salish-Kootenai Confederated Tribes as well as an American Indian transracial adoptee. Her master’s research in cultural anthropology at Colorado State University examined issues and outcomes of American Indian transracial adoption.

Her thesis “After the Indian Adoption Project: A Search for Identity”, was published by Edwin Mellen Press in 2008, and is now titled Mixing Cultural Identities Through Transracial Adoption: Outcomes of the Indian Adoption Project (1958-19670. Harness is currently a field director for the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research at Colorado State University.

She continues to research issues of American Indian transracial child placement.
